New litter laws have commenced in Tasmania. New offences and penalties apply. Members of the public can now report littering that they have seen, especially littering associated with a motor vechicle.
Reporting littering involves completing a littering report. This can be done directly online or by filling out a printed form. The eye-witness report forms the basis for the Environment Division to act further — to issue a written warning or an infringement notice or even prosecute the offender. Terms and conditions apply.
Look Who’s Littering
The Tasmanian Government has launched a public education campaign to coincide with the commencement of the new litter laws.
The media campaign is entitled Look Who’s Littering. Phase one of the campaign, Look Who’s Littering - On the Road, focuses on littering associated with motor vehicles.
The public education campaign is designed to inform the public that
- new litter laws have commenced;
- penalties apply for littering;
- members of the public can report littering (in particular littering associated with a motor vehicle) to the Litter telephone Hotline or online.
The media campaign is supported by information on this website.
