Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence 2010

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is hosting the 2010 Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence.

The Awards recognise and reward contributions to the enhancement, preservation and protection of the Tasmanian environment and their presentation will be held on Friday 4 June to coincide with World Environment Day celebrations.

The EPA invites entries from individuals, schools and industry, community and government sectors in seven award categories -

  • Large Business Sustainability:  Presented for the minimisation of the environmental footprint and the incorporation of social responsibility initiatives by a company, institution, organisation or business in Tasmania.
  • Small Business Sustainability: Presented for the adoption of sustainable measures in minimising the environmental footprint by a business with less than 50 employees.
  • Community:  Presented for leadership, commitment and excellence in protecting and enhancing the environment in Tasmania by individuals or community groups. 
  • Education:  Presented for the development and delivery of educational programs addressing and contributing to the protection, enhancement and sustainability of the Tasmanian environment.
  • Local Government:  Presented for the development and implementation of environmentally sustainable initiatives by a local government or regional authority in Tasmania.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Presented for the protection, conservation or enhancement of freshwater resources, marine environments and land systems.
  • Leadership in Climate Change Action: Presented for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and/or adaptation to, or mitigation of, the impacts of climate change in Tasmania.

Category winners will be nominated for the national Banksia Awards and one will receive the Minister’s Choice Award.

The Awards have been celebrating achievements in waste reduction, energy efficiency and resource conservation for 12 years, fostering leadership and encouraging a wider appreciation and implementation of integrated sustainable practices.
