About the Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence
The Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence recognise and reward those Tasmanians whose actions enhance, preserve and protect the Tasmanian environment.
2009 marks the 11th year of the Awards, each year highlighting the best of Tasmania’s innovation and commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship.
The Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts is proud to coordinate these Awards on behalf of the State Government.

Awards categories included

§ education
§ environmental stewardship
§ local government.
The winners from these awards are then eligible for the Minister’s Choice Award.
The Premier’s Award for Climate Action was presented for outstanding excellence in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and/or adaptation to, or mitigation of, the impacts of climate change in Tasmania.
Applications closed on 31 March 2009.

The 2009 Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence were announced at a formal dinner on June 5 2009 - World Environment Day.
The dinner was hosted by the Minister for the Environment.

The winners of the 2009 Awards for Environmental Excellence have been announced.
Award Categories
2009 Large Business Sustainability Award
Presented for minimisation of the environmental footprint and the incorporation of social responsibility initiatives by a company, institution, organisation or business in Tasmania
Entries are welcome from companies, businesses and organizations. Businesses will have more than 50 employees.
2009 Small Business Sustainability Award
Presented for the adoption of sustainable measures in minimising their environmental footprint by a Small Business operating in Tasmania.
Entries are welcome from companies, businesses and organizations. Businesses will employee less than 50 employees.
2009 Community Award
Presented for leadership, commitment and excellence in protecting and enhancing the environment in Tasmania by individuals or community groups.
Entries are welcome from not-for-profit groups, community groups and individuals.
2009 Education Award
Presented for the development and delivery of educational programs: that addressed and contributed to the protection, enhancement and sustainability of the environment in Tasmania
Entries are welcome from businesses, organizations, schools, companies, consultants, researchers, educators and community groups.
2009 Local Government Award
Presented for development and implementation of environmentally sustainable initiatives by a local government or regional authority in Tasmania.
Entries are welcome that recognize policies, projects or programs implemented at the municipal or local government level.
2009 Environmental Stewardship Award
Presented for the protection, conservation or enhancement of freshwater resources, marine environments, land systems.
Entries are welcome from state and local government agencies, consultants, researchers, community groups, individuals, companies, businesses, educators and schools.
2009 Premier’s Award For Climate Action
Presented for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and/or adaptation to, or mitigation of, the impacts of climate change in Tasmania.
Entries are welcome from companies, businesses, state and local government agencies, individuals consultants, researchers, educators and community groups.
