Noise
Noise has become an increasingly significant environmental issue. The quality of the acoustic environment may affect our work, leisure and sleep. Noise nuisance and deterioration of the acoustic environment need to be prevented. The sources of noise are many: industry, transport, amplified music and others. Different means are required to address problems from each of these sources.
The main legislation controlling environmental noise in Tasmania is the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 – particularly section 53 which deals with 'environmental nuisance'
The State's new Environment Protection Policy (Noise) 2009 took effect on 29 May 2009.
