About Us
The CleanBiz Tasmania program is a State Government funded program administered by the Environment Division in the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment. The Environment Division supports Tasmania's Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
CleanBiz contributes to one of the EPA’s primary functions which is to ‘further the sustainable development objectives of the
Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994'.
CleanBiz is a facilitation service, not a regulatory activity.
A $1.18 million CleanBiz pilot program was carried out between 2006 and 2008. The pilot program included a training/facilitation component and a grant scheme for resource efficiency projects.
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism and the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry were collaborators in the pilot program.
The Tasmanian businesses that took part in this pilot program proved they could save money and improve their environmental performance. Read about their success stories
here.
The program currently supports two facilitators who can help businesses achieve their resource efficiency goals. The facilitation service particularly suits medium sized (200 employees or less) manufacturers.
The service helps businesses get fit and ready for a low carbon economy.
Priority for access to the facilitation service is given to level 2 activity businesses (see Schedule 2 of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994).
The facilitators are Helen Peters and Damien Blackwell, experienced environmental officers who are trained to deliver the CleanBiz toolkit.
Helen and Damien work with businesses that wish to move beyond compliance with legislation and progress on the journey towards sustainability.
