Environment Protection Policy Review Panel
The Environment Protection Policy Review Panel (the Panel) is a statutory body established under Section 96A of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
The primary function of the Panel is to conduct assessments of Draft Environment Protection Policies. The Panel:
(a) must consider all submissions properly made to it in respect of the draft environment protection policy and impact statement; and
(b) may hold hearings in respect of any submission or group of submissions; and
(c) may modify the draft environment protection policy; and
(d) must, within 42 days after the completion of the consideration of submissions and the holding of all hearings, submit to the Minister:
(i) a report on the findings of the Panel; and
(ii) if the Panel has modified the draft environment protection policy, a copy of that
modified draft environment protection policy; and
(e) must publish notice of its report to the Minister in the Gazette and make the report and the
modified draft environment protection policy, if any, available to the public.
The Review Panel presently consists of the following persons:
- The Chairperson of the Panel, who is the Executive Commissioner of the Resource Planning and Development Commission. Mr Simon Cooper will be Acting Executive Commissioner from 19 January 2007.
- Dr Christine Mucha is a member of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Board with practical knowledge of, and experience in, environmental management in industry, commerce or economic development. Dr Mucha is the Chief Executive Officer for Hobart Water, and has previously held various positions in the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment, Tasmania. Dr Mucha holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons), University of Tasmania, Doctor of Philosophy, University of Tasmania and a postgraduate diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of New England.
- Ms Pru Bonham is a member of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Board with practical knowledge of, and experience in, environmental conservation, environmental protection, natural resources management, management and prevention of waste or environmental health. Ms Bonham is an algal biologist at CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, Hobart and holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons), University of Tasmania.
- Mr David Masters is a member of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Board with practical knowledge of, and experience in, environmental management in local government. Mr Masters is Manager of Development Services at Glamorgan Spring Bay Council. He holds a Diploma in Environmental Health, Graduate Certificate in Natural Resource Management and Master of Cultural Heritage and is a Corporate Member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
