Community Coastcare Handbook
This is a practical handbook for volunteers who are working to protect Tasmania's beautiful and unique coastline. It provides straight forward, best-practice guidelines for our particular climate and landscape.
We have learnt a lot from Coastcare and this book brings together the collated experience and wisdom of many groups and individuals. Part A helps you use the book, and describes our coastline. Part B helps you get started on a project including forming a group, planning activities and projects and legal matters. Part C describes how to stabilise dunes, revegetate using different coastal plant communities, methods of revegetation, propagation methods, weed management and fire management. Part D provides information on construction of access tracks, viewing platforms, controlling access to the beach, signs, car parks and toilets. Part E discusses coastal wildlife, injured wildlife and introduced pests and Part F provides contact details for further information.
