Local Government Programs

Local government plays an important role in protecting air quality throughout Tasmania. Councils may implement national and state strategies and legislation and are responsible for responding to many air quality complaints.

A number of councils now have their own air pollution reduction programs initiated by the council or under Partnership Agreements with the State government.

Partnership Agreements

Partnership agreements between State and Local government represent a commitment by the parties to work together to achieve specific strategies and outcomes. Air quality provisions are included in the Glenorchy, Hobart, Launceston and Region North agreements. Further agreements are under development and may include sections on air quality.
